All we have is past

I still remember seeing you there
you were waiting for me and holding your chair
the music would start but I didn’t care
It was you I came to see
you were the only place I wanted to be
the only place.

the temperature sweltering but we didn’t complain
it was clearly there, we both felt the same
we finally danced in the Purple Rain
and you kissed me once under the stars
and for a minute I thought it could heal my scars
for a minute.

with no future, all we have is past
a love that just wasn’t built to last
still don’t know why it had to end so fast
but shooting stars die a fiery death
and maybe I just needed time to find my breath
in this pile of ashes and regret.

because time goes by and people just change
some love was never meant to age
’cause every curtain always falls to the stage
and we can’t go home again.

I imagine you there reading your book
smiling your smile, I love to see that look
i imagine you happy, she’s what it took
to open your heart and heal your wounds
i’m hopeful that I’ll be there too, one day soon
with a heart to love that heals mine too.

and the pictures are there for me to see
of things I know can now never be
those same things that used to be so real to me
are ghosts of dreams that died
not sure I even had a chance to try
but that’s ok, that’s ok.

and I’ll forget you and you’ll forget me
i’ll forget how I used to watch you sleep
as we lay in my bed and I listened to you breathe
and time will carry on and on and on
just another verse of another forgotten song
cause sometimes love just ends.

because time goes by and people just change
Some love was never meant to age
“cause every curtain always falls to the stage
and we can’t go home again
