A Flock of Robins

I wake up from the sunlight
‘cause it’s shining in my face
I pull the covers back
and I hurry up my pace.

To read what you have written
It’s my favorite thing to do
I open up my laptop
there’s an email there from you.

I grab my coffee cup
and I sit right down to read
these lovely words you’ve written
written just this time for me.

And I read it twice again
to see your likeness better
between the lines and rhymes
of my special email letter.

And I see you there alone
beneath the clear blue sky
in rolling hills and valleys
where flocks of robin fly.

With chores begun in darkness
that continue through the day
your music is now calling
it’s time to come and play.

Your guitar you’re gently strumming
I wish the melody could drift
your words do light my soul
and your music is my gift.

You love the simple life
nature always calls your name
the river writes your music
the trees grow through your veins.

And though you’re there alone
and I’m here alone as well
for now our souls are dancing
no matter where we dwell.

To be your muse is heaven
if only for a day
the artist’s inspiration
till the robins fly away.
